Writer's Workshop
Friday, June 18th, 2004You’ll read it if you love me ^^
Orson Scott Card is officially my favorite writer in the world. Not because I think his prose is the best (that award goes to Patricia McKillip) or because I think his stories are the most enthralling (that award goes to Isabel Allende even though I think she basically writes the same novel over and over again… ah well, don't care, I love them all) but because he is the nicest man on the face of the earth. And funny. And helpful. And he can just whip out endings and all manner of things at the drop of a hat. Several times he nearly made me cry by just dropping into some dialague for someone's story. Oh and he took us ALL (that is, all 15 bootcampers) to a very nice Brazilian restuarant. We had some sort of cola that starts with g that I can't spell for the life of me but that was very good and I want some more. ^^
And he thought my name 'Hel' was amusing. And he said Whorehound was a good story I just needed to read some stuff by Jane Yolen because she's currently the best Fairy Tale writer and that's the style I'm best in.
And the other people at bootcamp…. Oliver with his homicidal robots… David with his perfect comments… Edmund who sat there and listened to me ramble about Shallow Water Blackout… Faisil who wanted to know all about Cuimhne… Jackie who watched movies with me practically every night… Grant who was as sweet as can be… Dave who always managed to come up with perfectly twisted endings to stories… Ada, Dan, Christian, Allan, Cathy, Greg, other people whose names I'm forgetting… I miss them all. But Oliver is going to go to ECU in Greenville this fall so I'll probably end up seeing him again. And we get a special section of our own on Hatrack.com (Card's website) so we can keep in touch.
And Books a Million is redoing their Sci-Fi/Fantasy section to actually include, you know, BOOKS. I went there the other day to look for Dave Farland's books and they didn't have any. And they didn't have any Patricia McKillip. And they didn't have any anthologies. Or hardcovers. Or anything really. I was very annoyed. So last night I drove to Barnes and Noble in Greenville. Bought two issues of "Realms of Fantasy". Must… start… publishing.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Comment if you love me. ^^
